Victron 12V 165Ah Gel Deep Cycle Battery

VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) technology utilizes sealed batteries with safety valves to prevent gas escape, ensuring maintenance-free operation. There are two types: AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries, which absorb electrolyte into a glass-fibre mat and are suitable for short-term high current delivery, and gel batteries, which have an immobilized gel electrolyte and offer longer service life and better cycle capacity. VRLA batteries have low self-discharge and can be stored for extended periods without recharging. They also exhibit exceptional deep discharge recovery, although repeated deep discharges can impact their overall lifespan. The discharge characteristics vary based on the type of VRLA battery.

FAQ

What are the advantages of VRLA batteries compared to other battery types?

VRLA batteries offer maintenance-free operation, sealed design with safety valves, low self-discharge, and the ability to be stored for extended periods without recharging. They also provide exceptional deep discharge recovery and come in different types, such as AGM and gel batteries, with varying benefits like high current delivery or longer service life.

Can VRLA batteries be used for long-term storage without recharging?

Yes, VRLA batteries have low self-discharge rates, allowing them to be stored for extended periods without the need for recharging. This is particularly advantageous when the batteries are kept in cool conditions. However, it's important to note that repeated deep discharges can negatively affect the overall lifespan of VRLA batteries.

How do the discharge characteristics differ between AGM and gel VRLA batteries?

AGM batteries are more suitable for short-term high current delivery, making them ideal for applications requiring bursts of power. On the other hand, gel batteries offer longer service life and better cycle capacity, making them suitable for applications that require sustained power over an extended period. The discharge characteristics vary based on the specific requirements of the application and the type of VRLA battery being used.
